Sensory Trust activities

Sessions with Sensory Trust have been designed to offer a range of immersive, sensory, and reflective activities to help people connect with nature over a total of five or six weeks.

Activities blend exploration, mindfulness, social interaction, and environmental education.

The programme focuses on key themes, including plants, birds, invertebrates, trees and soil, water, and human connections. All activities are optional, and participants can sit out activities they don’t feel comfortable with.

What activities are on offer?

Sensory exploration
Engaging with nature through sight, touch, sound, and smell.

Microscopic discovery
Using microscopes to examine textures and tiny life.

Hydrophone listening
Exploring underwater soundscapes in ponds and streams.
.

Birdsong identification
Tuning into the sounds of nature and recognising bird calls.

Bug spotting
Observing invertebrates in their natural habitats.

Tree and soil interaction
Exploring textures and scents.

Mindfulness in nature
Guided activities and breathwork to connecting with nature.

What is the site like?

The ‘base camp’ site area is close to a hard-surfaced path but sits on an area of long grass, which can get boggy after heavy rain. Activities will take place around the camp area, and a shelter will be used when it rains.

Other activities will take place away from the camp and will involve crossing grassy stretches which can also be muddy after rain. The pond area is accessible via a gate onto a flat platform. While the stream area has a step down, group members can still take place in many of the activities from the flat platform.

All of the equipment needed for interacting with nature is provided. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and clothing that allows for walking, bending, and stretching. These might get a little muddy.
